Solving Quality Issues in Healthcare Data: KONZA’s Leadership in NCQA DAV Accreditation

By Amber Epperson, Data Quality Specialist

Data integrity and accuracy are paramount in healthcare. KONZA is at the forefront of these efforts, with the largest number of facilities in the nation that have achieved NCQA Data Aggregator Validation (DAV) accreditation. But what exactly is NCQA DAV accreditation, and why is it so valuable for providers?

Understanding NCQA DAV Accreditation

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) is a respected entity dedicated to improving healthcare quality. Their Data Aggregator Validation (DAV) accreditation is a gold standard in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of clinical data. For providers, achieving NCQA DAV accreditation means that the data they provide is trustworthy, complete and adheres to the highest standards, which is crucial for accurate HEDIS reporting.

KONZA’s Role

KONZA is committed to ensuring that clinical data streams are evaluated to the highest standards. When new KONZA members onboard, we include DAV Accreditation as part of the process with minimum impact and maximum value.

The DAV program not only validates the accuracy of aggregated clinical data but also exempts it from HEDIS Primary Source Verification (PSV) audits, thereby streamlining processes for health plans, providers, government organizations and others.

Delivering Excellence Through Data

KONZA ensures that data quality is more than just a promise—it’s a practice. By aligning with NCQA’s rigorous standards, KONZA delivers Data Aggregator Validated CCDs, which are integral for health plans and providers looking to enhance their HEDIS scores. These high-quality data streams undergo thorough verification, ensuring they meet stringent integrity and process standards from the point of ingestion at primary sources through transmission to end users.

Since NCQA is responsible for the HEDIS program and trains the HEDIS auditors, this provides a unique opportunity for health plans and MCOs to improve their HEDIS scores, resulting in additional revenue for the plan for appropriate documentation of the high quality of care provided.

Commitment to Data Quality and Reporting

KONZA undergoes continuous audits by NCQA to maintain its Validated Data Stream Certification. Currently, we’re taking our eighth cohort through the DAV program, and we’re looking to celebrate the new sites that earn DAV accreditation within the next 60 days.

Our comprehensive processes include the use of advanced tools like HL7 Spy and Availity’s analytics tool to evaluate data quality. These tools help identify and resolve data inconsistencies, ensuring that participants meet the required data specifications.

The results speak for themselves. Since January 2023, KONZA has completed Primary Source Verification on 71 new integrations, with 94% meeting the minimum data quality threshold. Common issues such as incorrect LOINC codes and medication dose mismatches are promptly addressed, reflecting KONZA’s proactive approach to data integrity.

Ensuring Reliable Data for Quality Programs

At the heart of KONZA’s efforts is the goal to provide reliable and accurate clinical data that healthcare organizations can trust. This commitment is vital for effective HEDIS reporting and a variety of other quality programs. By continuously refining our processes and upholding meticulous standards, we ensure that the healthcare industry can rely on precise data to drive better patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
